Component Lead-times continue to rise

Once available distribution stock is consumed, component factory lead-times continue to be an issue, with some of the most ordinarily simple to source passives and semi-conductors proving to be problematic on customer BoM’s.

The table below, as published in March 2018 by the ECIA (Electronic Components Industry Association) shows a steady increase in lead times from May 2015 with no sign of lead times improving any time soon;

A further Market Conditions Report undertaken by Future Electronics for Q2 of 2018, also shows many factory lead-times continue to increase across multiple manufacturers and families of components, on a much larger scale in comparison to those shown as decreasing.

In addition, in many cases the availability of parts (or lack of) can have a significant impact on price due to the demand outweighing the current supply conditions, so we are again asking customers to sensibly review their order coverage, whilst re-iterating this is an industrywide issue.

There are many ways EMS can help alleviate these issues so please do contact your sales representative to discuss in further detail.
